Posting a song a day, every day.

An early passion

Music is for sure the thing I remember liking the longest. In fact, I cannot remember a time in my life when I didn’t love music.

I’ve always been fascinated by how music can impact our emotions.

I listen to music every single day. I work with music playing most of the time. I walk, run, and commute with music playing. Sometimes, I even sleep with music playing.

At many points in my life I also tried to make music, to various degrees of success. I don’t consider myself a musician, but this can be said to be a work in progress – and a topic for another time.

An exercise in consistency

There are very few things I can say I do every day, outside of keeping myself alive.

One day, I stumbled upon No Days Off one day. What a cool idea! A public commitment to do something daily.

This inspired me to create a similar project, but within a different context.

Curation, but for myself

asongevery.day is a website where I post a song every day, every day.

Each song is accompanied by a short comment on why it is there. Some songs were relevant to specific moments of my life, some I just discovered and felt like sharing, and some were just whatever was playing when I opened the website to post the next song.

Friends often ask me for music recommendations. This is not always easy because music depends a lot on context, so asongevery.day includes this context whenever it makes sense.

This website has no growth hacking, no marketing metrics, and no monetisation. It is a personal project that I do for myself. If anyone else finds it interesting, they are welcome to follow along. But I made this for me.

As always, a learning opportunity

Each project I do is, in the worst case scenario, a learning opportunity, and this is no exception.

While working at Resend, I was developing the Topics feature, a way to categorise emails and allow users to subscribe only to what matters to them.

I used asongevery.day as a playground to test this feature, by creating two newsletters: a daily song email and a weekly recap. Implementing this as a user led me to understand the rough edges of the feature, and how to improve it before releasing it to the public.

What’s playing today?
